3 Things that I love about Easter!

I do believe that Spring is finally in the air!  It is very pretty outside, a little chilly but, I'm loving it!  I want to share with you today a couple of things that I love about Easter.  As a little girl, I would look forward to getting my pretty little Easter dress and matching purse and hat.  My brothers and I would each have Easter speeches that we would have to recite at the children's program during Easter Sunday.  However, even though I don't necessarily celebrate Easter any longer, I still love to relive my childhood memories through my children.

1) It's always around spring time.  I love how beautiful the weather is and how much fun it is to see how the flowers are starting to blossom.  To me, even the grass look a little greener and glossy.  I also like it that my babies can now go outside and play without having to bundle all up.

2) I love wearing spring dresses.  During the springtime, it's the time of the year, when all the cute pink and fluorescent colors are available.  I just love being able to wear my cute little sun dresses.  I'm the type of gal that does not like to wear bulky coats and jackets. I'm a southern girl, I don't like the cold.  Down south, I'm use to it snowing today and leaving today, but since I've been up north, that is so not the case.  I'm really like a kid in the candy store when it comes to the spring time.  Spring is one of my favorite seasons of the year.

3) Easter is when the children get to do the annual egg hunt.  As a child, I use to love to go to church on Easter because I just knew there were going to be a program specifically for the kids.  I loved running around the church playground looking for eggs, and prizes.  Now, as an adult, I still get a joy out of Easter because, one, I can recall childhood memories, and  two, I can engage in children's activities with my own babies.  I love telling my  kids about all of the fun memories that I shared with my brothers as a little  girl.

Easter time is a very unique holiday and  I just love all of the beautiful flowers and prettiness outside during this time of the year.  I hope this article will bring back some childhood memories of your own.

Happy Easter,
LaTersa Blakely

Newborn Diaper Planning

Disposable diapers or cloth diapers that is the question!  Well, if you are like most mom you thrive on making the best decision for your child when it comes to choosing the best kinds of diapers!  But, the all time favorite one is their baby's skin.  Every mother wants to make decisions of choosing diapers that will not leave baby with skin rashes or which ones that will keep the baby drier.  I'm not going to lie, I gave Walmart brand diapers a chance, but I was very unpleased with them.  For me, I could not use store brand diapers on either one of my childrens because for one, they could only urine in them once, before it started to leak, and two, they were cheap.   Other concerns about disposable diapers were the dyes, sodium polyacrylate (the absorbent gel) that they tend to use within the diapers. The Sodium polyacrylate has been linked in the past to toxic shock syndrome, allergic reactions and it is very harmful to pets.  Some of the other dyes and dioxin according to the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) is known for causing damage to the central nervous system , kidneys, and liver.

Problems reported to the Consumer Protection Agency regarding disposables include, chemical burns, noxious chemical and insecticide odors, babies pulling disposables apart and putting pieces of plastic into their noses and mouth, choking on tab papers and linings, plastic melting onto the skin, and ink staining the skin. Plastic tabs can also tear skin if the diaper is not properly put on the baby. According to the Journal of Pediatrics, 54 % of one-month old babies using disposable diapers had rashes, 16 % having severe rashes.

With more and more moms going green, they are starting to increase the needs for cloth diapers or eco-friendly diapers such as Seventh Generation Diapers.  The choice between the different types of diapers available is a matter of personal preference. There really is no one best type of diaper that is good for every baby. Deciding to use cloth or disposable diapers depends on your lifestyle, personal preference, finances and your concern for the environment. Some parents combine the two, using cloth at home and disposable when they are going to be out all day. The choice that is right for you and your baby may be different from the one that's right for your friend and her baby.   So, my best advice to you would be to decide on a choice diapers that are best for you and your baby and your family's life style.

Best wishes to you and your family!

5 Reasons Why I Love The CEOMAMMA Network!

I wanted to share with you a phenomenal group that I recommend you to join!  I really love the owner of this group, Tamyka Washington! She is a very sweet lady and is so full of wisdom and knowledge.  I joined this group back in November of 2010.  I came across this group while chatting on Social Moms (formerly TwitterMoms).  I wanted to share with you the five top reasons why I love being apart of this community.

1) Very Interactive!  Every since I have become apart of this group, I have met some wonderful ladies and they are all so very helpful.  If you need encouragement, or some advice about your business, I guarantee you someone will be posting about it.

2) Supportive!  I had never been in a group with a bunch of women, who are not all about themselves until I found this group.  Everyone is always so willing to share their knowledge and experiences on just about any topic you might have.  For example, business owners, new mom entrepreneurs, or personal topics posted on a daily basis.

3) I began to put myself out there more!  Before joining this group, I was going about it the wrong way on how to market my business, bring and create the buzz about my business and blog.  It was during one of my sessions with Tamyka, that she told me to blog about my business and be consistent.  "I must say that she was right on the money"

4) Easy to navigate within the network!  When I'm interacting within the network, I have no problems finding my way around it.

5) Very Knowledgable!  I will say this over and over again..... I have learned so much within these last few months that is is AMAZING!  I can post a question of any kind, and within an hour or so, someone will respond and give me the solution or if they don't know it, will point me in the right direction.  I would say if you are not apart of this awesome group, then you are certainly missing out!

So, if you have been thinking about it, not sure, if you want to join, Well I'm inviting you to join me in the extra-ordinary group!  Join Today, Not Tomorrow, Not Next year, Join Today!

How are you spring cleaning your homes, small businesses?  I've been doing a lot of spring cleaning with my house! I've raided my closet for clothes that can no longer fit all of my more to love.  I did this with every closet in my house, still working on hubby and kid's clothes.  But, now I want to rearrange furniture, and get new spring color shower curtains.  What are some things you have been spring cleaning?

Settling Down at The Right Place! Product Review of The Web Entrepreneur Backpack E-book!

Well, as you know over this past week I have been promoting my two new books and my upcoming events!  I have a confession to make!  It just hit me last night that I have been stressing out over all this work that I have consumed myself with.  For those of you who don't know me, I'm LaTersa Blakely, owner/ceo of Baby Diaper Cakes and Beyond, where I specialize in baby shower diaper cakes, baby shower favors, towel cakes and gift baskets.  I was up til 12a.m. this morning scratching my head with trying to figure out what am I doing wrong and coming to the realization that I have been going in circles, and all over the place.  See, my audience is moms, expecting moms, new moms with small children, but I have been traveling around and around in circles trying to figure out, where can I find new customers, while keep my old customers happy?  I'm dead serious about how not being in the right place at the right time can cause you to miss out on sales, leave money on the table, you name it, that's what has happened to me.  But, like I said, I had an aha moment today while reading the ecourse by LaShanda Henry, called "The Web Entrepreneur Backpack" and taking the "7 day challenge on how to find customers online". The entire bundle can be purchased in the Black Business Starter Kit!  I have learned so much from taking my time reading through the Black Business Starter Kit, I have a long ways to go, but that's one of the things that I like about these e-books, I can go at my own pace. If you are a new business owner like myself and you want to know the inside scoop as to how to make customers find you and you finding them, then this kit is for you?

2) Tired of going in circles!  I have been all over the place, and it has led me to a week of NO sales!  It's o.k. to be in a couple of groups for support and exposure, but if you are not in your niche group where you can find people that are potential clients, then you will end up just like me, going around and round in circles, where she stops, nobody knows.

3) Not making any money?  If you are not making money, then chances are, you don't have any customers, or if you have customers, they are not returning.  This Black Business Starter Kit will be a God sent.  I guarantee you, you will be like me, going to the bathroom and reading the book while on the toilet, or better yet, soaking in the tub, reading this book.  When you get great information, it's hard to put it down.

4) Need help with marketing your products or services?  The material in this e-guide has helped me in ways that I can't begin to tell you.  It's like where has Lashanda Henry been all my life!  I don't just read the material, I use the information right away and incorporate it into my business that which applies.  I'm still learning how to market my diaper cakes and other gifts.  I'm using my information that I have learned and being creative to learn better ways to sell and market my products.  Don't give up because things seem not be going like you planned it!  I'm re-evaluating my current situation this weekend, and making some adjustments. So that is what I'm encouraging you to do, whatever's not working for your your business or personal life, please don't be afraid to CHANGE it!

5) Need to know where the low-cost and free tools are?  OMG, when I tell you my head has increased in size tremendously due to all of the resources that I've been searching for, I have found in this starter kit.  Don't worry about the price, or don't say, I'm not paying this much for some e-books.  Bad Idea! Wrong Answer, I promise you, this will help you in so many ways!  So, enough of me going off at the mouth, Go Get Yours Today, Not tomorrow, Not next month, but TODAY!

I really hope you take what I'm giving you today and run with it!  This will help you keep it moving toward your plans and goals for your business.

Best Wishes,
LaTersa Blakely

A New Baby, A New Job: How do I juggle all this?

Are you a new mom?  Are you a new mom entrepreneur?  You are probably wondering to yourself, how in the world will I be able to juggle all of this.  This is a lot harder than I expected it to be!  Like me and so many other moms, we have decided to come home and take care of our little people.  I can recall as a little girl, how I use to say, when I get older, I want to get married and have 5 kids!  (notice I said when I was little).  Well, when you are young everything looks easy to you!  Well, low and behold, when you get older, things are not as easy as it appeared to be when you are older.

As a little girl, I recall my mother being one of those Madea's in the neighborhood!  She was a thin and petite woman but if you were in her presence, you showed her respect and she was everybody's mommy!  She not only support her own kids when they were involved in something, but she encouraged every child that came her way.  The point of the story, is that like me and my mom, we found a system that worked for us and this is exactly what you are going to have to figure out.  Now, I will share with you a few tips on how you can juggle motherhood and mom entrepreneur!

1) Make a to-do-list for each day!  When you have something to aim for and complete by a certain time frame, it helps you to stay focused!  I can not live without my to-do-list, this is something that I have to do every night before going to bed.  See if you do this before you go to bed, you will be more than likely not to forget the most important things that you have to accomplish to following day.

2) Be flexible.  You have to be able to work saving room for surprises, emergencies.  I had an experience of this very thing a few weeks ago, and it was not pretty.  My son had a really bad nose bleed, and his teachers could not stop his nose from bleeding! I had to pick him up from school and rush him to the nearest emergency room!  Now, on the flip side of this, if I was still in the corporate world, I would have had to answer to my boss, about why I was leaving and probably get written up.  This is one of perks of being a WAHM!

So, with finding your own system, it's easy to get frustrated and second guess yourself about the decision you made to raise your kids and to work from home.  But, I can assure you that if you stick with it and don't faint, that you will begin to see your self as a pro in this category.  For more in depth details about how to transition from motherhood to mom entrepreneur, I have created a e-book guide to help you step by step with motherhood and mom entrepreneur, Get Your Copy Today!

5 Ways to Baby-Proof Your Home!

Get Your Very Own Reborn Doll?--Click here!

Are you having a baby soon?  Have you already had the baby and are in the process of being discharged.  Well, I know you probably have a lot of anxiety going on in your head.  Is my house ready for my little bundle of joy, is the nursery's paint job completed.  All of these questions, well, I'm here to help you baby-proof your home. I found some great tips today from ivillage and to view the entire list, click here!

Tip #1: Crawl around on the floor just like a baby would do , to get the fill of and see up close of anything that could potentially cause harm to the little one.  I know this may sound crazy, but it is needed in order to see things from a baby's point of view.  Anything that is big enough for baby to put in his/her mouth needs to be picked up immediately!

Tip#2: Cover all electrical sockets with the plastic plugs, or you can get the childproof socket covers.  This one is so important because once your baby starts to crawl and become curious, the sockets are one of the first places they start to tamper with.  I know with my own babies, they always want to test the waters by trying to play with it, but I would tap those little fingers.

Tip#3: Don't leave your baby alone in the bath tub.  Babies can easily drown in about an inch of water.  So wash your baby up and take them out of the tub.

Tip#4: Place latches on doors where children should not be. This will keep your baby from ending up in areas of the house where they could have a fall or a really bad accident.  You can get these latches or childproof door closures from your local Wal-marts, or Targets.

Tip#5: Separate your old children's toys from the baby's toys.  The baby should not be able to grab the other toys because the baby could choke on one of them, or stick himself in the eye.

I hope these few tips will get you started on the right foot of making your home a baby-proof one and will allow you to maintain it.  Best wishes to you and your new bundle of joy!

Warm Regards,
LaTersa Blakely

Tips on how to make a diaper cake!

Do you want to be the talk of the town?  Are you attending a baby shower soon?  No worries, I have just the perfect baby shower centerpiece for you.  Have you heard of a diaper cake before?  Well, just for clarification, a diaper cake is a cake shaped to look like a wedding cake, but it is baked using diapers.  These diaper cakes are becoming more and more popular nowadays.   I wanted to share with you some tips on how you too can make your very own diaper cake.

Tip#1 Learn how to make a diaper cake.  It is very important to learn how to make the diaper cake first before you start to giving them as gifts or selling them.  You do not want to give a gift to your loved one or friend when you have just started making them.  You want to put your best face forward. What I mean by this is you want to give your best work as a gift.  You can learn step by step, watching this video as to what it takes to make your very own diaper cake to look as beautiful as a real wedding cake. Why read boring books or articles, when you can watch a video that you can press pause, or replay when ever you want to.

Tip#1
Use name brand diapers (Pamper Swaddlers, Luvs, Pampers, or Huggies). When baking your cake, if you use cheap looking diapers, this will make your diaper cake's value decrease big time.

Tip#2
Never use glue or tape on your diaper cakes.  Now if you were a new mom and someone gave you this cute little diaper cake, but when you took it down, you noticed all of the diapers had sticky tape and glue on them.  This will be a waste of your time and money.  You don't want to give a gift to the new parents that they can not use.  You will be very disappointed to find out that your loved one or friend threw the diaper cake in the trash!

Tip#3
Always use diapers that the new parents request.  When you are building your diaper cakes for your loved ones and friends, it makes the gift a little more extra special when you can give them what they want.

I really hope this inspires you to let your creative side show.  I want to hear from you and see pictures of how your diaper cake turned out...
