2011 Featured Women in Business--Kelly Green

Full Name: Kelly Green

Name of your Company: Insider Branding Secrets

Position: Owner, Personal Branding Strategist

Website Address:  http://InsiderBrandingSecrets.com

Year Founded: 2009

Tell us about yourself and your business: I am a Personal Branding coach for small business owners and new entrepreneurs. I spent 15 years as an integrated and brand marketing executive in the music business. During that time I developed marketing and promotional campaigns for recording artists to get them national exposure and maximum CD sales. Now I’m bringing some of those same techniques, strategies and resources full circle to my company in order to empower my clients.

What inspired you to start a business?  After I was laid off, I knew that I still wanted to do marketing because I liked seeing the creative process unfold. But I also wanted to have more flexibility, freedom and less stress. I decided to get certified as a Wellness Coach and began to work with people to make better lifestyle choices. As I got more into my business, I realized that I was not only helping people to reframe their thinking around their health issues, I was helping them to redefine their Personal Brand. My clients had lost sight of who they were before the illness and I was coaching them past those obstacles. I then married those years of marketing and branding skills with my coaching training and started Insider Branding Secrets to help other new entrepreneurs define & develop their Personal Brand.

Share one business goal: My goal for this year is to do more speaking engagements. I like speaking to groups of people and actually seeing the moment the light bulb comes on for them. There’s also a certain energy that only happens when people are face-to-face and realize that they are not alone on this entrepreneurial journey.

What would you say contributes to your success? I would say that being visible on as many different platforms as possible has been a big factor in growing my business. I attend live networking functions, connect with people through social media, write articles, blog and I’ve joined business groups to further my personal and professional development. A lot of the things I learn about my business and goals, I am able to pass on to my clients.

What advice would you give an aspiring entrepreneur? There are two things I always say to new entrepreneurs. 1) Determine very early in your business who your target audience is. Once you know who you’re talking to, all of your other marketing efforts will fall into place. Knowing who you’re speaking to will save you a lot of time, money & frustration. And #2) Do not wait until everything is “perfect” before you begin your business. Start where you are with what you have. You can tweak the process as you go along.

Anything else you want to mention about your business? I am preparing for my 6-week tele-class series “Insider Branding Secrets to Becoming the Expert” which starts March 29th. Your readers can go to my website, join the mailing list and get all of the details. They will also get a free download of my 10-Step Personal Branding Starter Kit when they join. Thanks so much LaTersa for giving me this opportunity!

5 Reasons Why I feel on Top of The World!

Hello all,

I am so thankful for my family and friends who have supported me with my business from day one.  I always count my many blessings for the things we often take for granted.  I want to share with you five things that make me feel on top of the world.

1) My life.  A lot of people take it for granted that they will be here tomorrow.  Well, of the thirty-three years that I have been on this earth, I must say that I have learn to give thanks for my life on a daily basis.  Being able to wake up every morning in good health and  to see my beautiful babies and of course, my husband, puts a big smile on my face.

2) My health.  I have been blessed to be among the healthy people. I might not be at the size I want, or I might have a few mishaps, but overall, my health is in pretty good condition.  When I was a bit younger, I use to take for granted that I would  always be a certain size, and be able to maintain a certain figure or weight, but like many other things, my body started to change over the years, and  especially when I became a mother. Those more to love pounds began to settle in for an extra long vacation.  "I'm still trying to figure out when they are going to leave" But, until I figure that out, I'm going to drink plenty of water, do some form of  exercise.  I'm beginning to embrace my body, health, and mind; because if I don't take care of me, how can I be of service to anyone else.

3) My family.  I can't shut up about this subject because I have a very, very supportive husband. Whenever, I want to start wining or complaining about something, he always remind me of the positive side of the situation and vice versa.  If I have a new idea or new book that I want to pursue, he's my number one fan in encouraging me to be all that I can be and to give it 110%.  My beautiful children who we both love and adore, keeps a smile on my face daily.  Just being able to teach them about real life and how to always keep God first, has been and still is such a joy to hear them ask questions. I also enjoy being able to be involved in my children's school activities.  My all time favorite is having movie night. We rent movies from the Red Box. Not to forget about my loving parents who instilled in me the right principles that would help me to be a survivor in this world.  My brothers who have always supported me in my endeavors.

I really hope this inspires you to be thankful in all you do!

Tips for a new mom entrepreneur!

Have you started your home business?  Are you enjoying being the CEO of your company?  Well, I would like to just say congrats to you for accomplishing your dreams and goals.  Now, you can be home with your children and not have to worry about a 9 to 5 job anymore.  I know you are probably thinking what have I gotten myself into here.  This is a lot more work than I had in mind.  No need to fear, I'm here to share with you a few tips that I try to incorporate into my home based business to keep me from going bald!!!!

1) Learn to say NO!  When you are a first time or even new mom entrepreneur, there will be people or even close family members who will not take you or your business serious.  They will still require you to do all of the things that you use to do, while in the corporate world.  You will really have to become tough and say No.  It's o.k. to value your time and your work because if you don't value what you do, how do you expect someone else to.  One of the things, I do on a regular basis is keep a to do list on hand.  When I complete a task, I cross it off and put a star by it.  This really helps me to feel like I've accomplished something for that particular day.

2) Delegate your work load around the house. What I mean by this is if you have a spouse, children or parents around.  Ask them to help you with giving certain people a chore to complete.  Now, I know for myself, I often times bribe my babies (5 and 3 years old) to help keep their room clean. By doing so, I either treat them to the red box for one of the latest kids movies, or take them to the playground at McDonalds. Be creative when it comes to your kids. It all depends on the age bracket.  Now, with my husband, sometimes, I ask him to do a couple of loads of cloth to help keep them down to a load or two.  Most of the time, if he's at home, like the weekend, he will keep the kids down stairs or take them for a ride, so I can focus on my reading or getting things ready for the upcoming week.  I don't work per say with my business but, catching up on blogging and making videos.

3) Surround yourself with a positive network or group of people.  When you are starting a new business or just adding new ideas to your existing business, it's almost a must have to stay positive and have your closest circle of friends and family members be positive as well.  You can join various groups on facebook, or other ning social networking groups. When you are looking for groups to join, try searching groups within your niche or targeted marketed.  I can tell you from experience that when you surround yourself with like minded people, you will be amazed at all the great resources and knowledge that you will gain.  I mean I have been a member of CEOMamma since October of 2010 and by now my head should be biggest as an elephant from all the great knowledge and resources that I have obtained..  I would suggest joining some of these groups mentioned above to fellowship and share your experiences. You never know, someone just might have the answer to a question that you just can't seem to find an answer to.

4) Take care of your health! Yes, I said it.  See as mothers we always tend to get caught up in taking care of everyone and everybody else, that we tend to forget about self.  Well, I'm here to tell you that a hard head makes a very soft behind (my mama use to say).  Your body needs rest, and plenty of it.  If you have infants in the house, it is detrimental that you get as much rest as possible because you WILL most definitely need it.  Get your regular pap smears, visit your doctors on a regular basis.  Most importantly, eat a balanced meal daily and drink plenty of water.  Now, I'm guilty of this, I sometimes have forgotten to drink water, not because I don't like it, but because I have started my day off getting everything on my to do list done, and taking care of everyone else and have not even looked at a bottle water. I'm working on this. I now keep a bottle water by my bed and on my desk in my office.

5) Make room for emergencies!  What I mean by this is always be flexible.  Leave room for the oh so sweet surprises or emergencies.  For example, last week, my son had a horrible nose bleed and he had to picked up from school and rushed to the emergency room.  When I tell you, I had to keep my cool, and try to look like I was calm for my babies sake.  He was all panicky and scared, so like any mother would do when something is wrong with their little people, be brave and show no fear.  Believe it or not, kids can sense when something is not right.  But, thankfully, everything is fine and my little Ishmael is back to his normal big self.  Speaking of that, we just played with the bubbles. "who can blow the biggest bubbles". Now, that's the joy of being your own boss and not having to explain yourself or give an explanation for your reasons for having to leave work to attend to an ill child.

I do hope these tips will allow you to take a deep breath and to help you have a smoother journey on your way to the Donald Trump Level!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I want to hear from you, let me know your concerns and struggles.  If this has helped you in any way, feel free to tweet this and share it on facebook.  Until next time, God Bless.

Best Wishes,
LaTersa Blakely

Mom Entrepreneurs: Do You Need A Website Makeover?

Hello mom entrepreneurs,

I wanted to shed a little light on you today.  Are you just started a dream business or are have you been in business for a while?  If you answered these questions, well you know that having a professional looking website and one that is easy to navigate for your customers is a Must Have.  I wanted to give you a few tips on what to look for when designing your website.

Tip# One:
Do not make your website too busy! You are probably saying, busy what does that mean?  Well, it simply means that you can have to much on your website that causes your audience to leave your site because its hard for them to get to what they are exactly looking for.  Another reason could be that you don't have the kind of content that your audience or niche is looking for.

Tip# Two:
Have a Call To Action on Your Site!  This is a very important one.  A call to action is simply telling your customers what you want them to do.  I mean you are probably saying, tell them what to do, WHAT!  You would be surprised at how many times, I myself lost customers, or even new followers because of this very thing.  Don't assume that people know what to do when they approach your website.  Below is a few key call to action phrases:
  • Buy Now
  • Subscribe To
  • Follow Me
  • Purchase Yours Today
You see how simple things, such as the ones above are very important; but yet you still have a lot of people who don't incorporate this into their completed website.

Tip# Three
Get an Ecommerce site or a shopping cart that will be able to allow you to use coupon codes, or discounts.  For those of you starting out, this might be a bit much for you.  I know about this first hand because at the very beginning of starting my business, I did not have one, so I used paypal shopping carts.  I love paypal and I still use them from time to time.  But for my website, I use Zencart shopping cart.  I must say that this is one of the best moves that I have made.  Now, don't get me wrong, I'm still learning as I go.  Don't be afraid of change.  You either can keep doing what you are doing and reap the same outcome or you can do something different and reap new and better outcomes.

So the big question is who designed your website and where can I get my website madeover.  Great question, I would highly recommend Diva Designz.  I look forward to hearing from you.  Give me your feedback on my newly designed website.

Warm Regards,
LaTersa Blakely
